For some reason, scooter keys are often these fussy little things that fit on no keychains (M.’s has a stubby plastic cap that’s supposed to fit on one, but, as he says, the loop part of the plastic invariably breaks with a little use). So M.’s in the habit of leaving his in his pants pocket.
And, of course, it sometimes gets left behind when he moves stuff over from one pair to another. Which happened this week. Twice.
So, yesterday, not only did we find out – after we’d gotten there – that the elevator at the station was still out, but we’d already gotten the scooter out of the car twice and had one return trip to the house to pick up the forgotten key.
(And – damn! – writing this just reminded me that I forgot to charge the battery last night!! Gotta go give it a quickie boost.)
If they’d just make normal keys you could easily fit on a keychain, this wouldn’t be an issue.
I can’t believe that they are still having trouble with the elevator – aren’t they aware that the people who need it can’t walk up and down the stairs. They just have to get with the program.
I think they probably do the best with what they have – which isn’t much. Everything having to do with local life in the DC area is woefully underfunded, because bad politics has such a stranglehold on things. And VA isn’t much help; the state government is down South, and they have a real aversion to helping out folks in the North, since it’s perceived that everyone here is too rich for their own good and doesn’t need the help.
There’s a list on the WMATA website of elevator outages – and it’s long. Happily, elevator – while apparently making scary noises – was up and running today.
